Students will explore strategies for increasing autonomy in the classroom and take greater responsibility for observing, planning, teaching and assessing and reporting in thier future professions.

Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate advanced knowledge of a range of curriculum models, orientations and elements for primary contexts (K-6);
  2. Describe strategies that link issues relevant to the primary context to the practices of curriculum policy and design;
  3. Critique by observation and reflection how to creative a positive, safe and engaging learning environment, in the context of a school community;
  4. Plan, implement and review units of work and develop required coherent, logical and engaging resources;
  5. Operating with increasing autonomy, confidence and competence in learning and teaching within a Christian or alternate school context.

Subject Content

  1. Organisation and conceptual models of planning curriculum work (K-6); layers of influence on classroom activity; understanding contexts for teachers’ curriculum work;
  2. Planning units of work for the Key Learning Areas; comparing outcomes-based and standards-based orientations to planning; be able to demonstrate an understanding of the relevant issues and the strategies available to support the safe, responsible and ethical use of ICT in learning and teaching;
  3. Building authentic Christian and alternate school perspectives into curriculum work; designing, developing and implementing curriculum work from the relevant syllabus;
  4. Critical reflection on the implementation of units of work; working in teams; approaches to curricular integration and differentiation; social, political and economic influences on curriculum.
