1. Demonstrate an understanding of the principles and theories of cultural and social diversity, including intercultural communication, and the impact on practice;
2. Examine and critically analyse a broad range of social and cultural issues and systems;
3. Identify key elements of culturally and socially diverse practice, including assessment, intervention and support;
4. Apply advanced self- awareness and self-reflection of the students’ cultural and social identity to enhance effective professional practice.

• Theories and principles of cultural and social diversity, including intercultural communication
• Effects of cultural factors on perceptions, explanations, interpretations, assessment, expectations, communication and outcomes of counselling
• Intercultural differences in non-verbal behaviours and their significance
• Language, culture and professional relationships
• Skills development, assessment intervention, and support
• Evaluation of effectiveness in culturally and socially diverse practice
• Ethical issues in cross cultural work
