Student Support

We are committed to seeing you succeed and thrive in your studies through our many Pastoral and Study Support programs. All the documents you will need through your student life cycle can be found here. Improvements are guided by the Student Services and Support Plan.

Our Student Support Team is available to provide advice and support with general and specific enquiries, including academic advice for subject selection, how to access learning support services, queries regarding enrolment, grades, and graduation, IT assistance, and career advice. You can access on-request support services through AC’s learning management system or via phone (1300 228 355) or email (studentsupport@ac.edu.au). Once enrolled, you are given access to the online Academic Handbook and Study Skills platform for further information about accessing support.

Our Student Support Centre values what you have to say about the service we deliver. To help us provide the best possible service to you, we want to hear about your experience. Please let us know here.

Students requiring literacy, numeracy, essay writing and referencing tuition can access this support by contacting studentsupport@ac.edu.au

Want to improve your essay writing skills? We have stocked the Study Skills page on Moodle with all sorts of resources to help you improve your skills. Your tutor will also use this to provide you specific feedback for each assessment.

Other important sites for you to access are:

Students who have struggled academically in the previous semester can benefit from our Peer Tutoring program. Students who have maintained a Distinction average or higher are invited to participate as mentors and are provided training and a program to help them guide ‘fellow travellers’ through a successful semester of study. For more information, please contact: studentsupport@ac.edu.au

AC recognises that there is no single Australian Indigenous culture and emphasises the importance of culturally appropriate behaviour and local community consultation. AC’s Australian Indigenous Awareness Project includes several initiatives to contextualise subject content and assessments.  Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander students can access on-request support services through AC-Indigenous@ac.edu.au

AC also fosters a culture of inclusion by focusing on impact and engagement in research that builds understanding regarding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In 2019, AC’s Australasian Pentecostal Studies journal dedicated a full volume to explore various research topics around Australian Indigenous studies, with the theme of Dreaming and Spirit Filled Christianity.

International Students bring a richness and diversity to our student body. There is a specific session within the on-campus orientation program for international students, including details about the International Student Policy.

Generalised support for developing academic English skills is available on Moodle for all students to access. In addition, cohorts of international students are provided with regular opportunities to gather for tutorials with a focus on reviewing assessment material and looking to improve appropriate academic English language use. International students are welcome to fully participate in all student life offerings at AC, as well as day-trips designed especially for international students, to showcase Australian customs and culture. For more information, please contact our International Support Office: ISO@ac.edu.au

Diversity and equity are core to the Mission, Vision and Values of AC. As noted in the Diversity and Equity Policy, AC is committed to providing an environment for staff, research candidates and students that is free from discrimination based on income, age, disability, social and ethnic background, location or gender. Objectives and projects are outlined in the Diversity and Equity Plan.

Diversity and equity are supported through range of other policies, including:

The AC Disability Services Handbook provides details regarding support programs and processes for students with a disability. The Assessment Policy also provides for students with a disability, medical condition or learning need to be granted extensions or make alternative arrangements for their assessments.

AC’s Disability Support Office can assist in providing you with adjustments to assessments and learning to accommodate your disability. Students with a temporary injury, such as a broken limb, may also be eligible for assistance. You can enquire about potential adjustments or arrange an appointment by emailing: dso@ac.edu.au.

The AC website lists job opportunities being advertised at AC. The Student Support Team also provides advice to students regarding career and enrolment choices.

We’re always seeking Stakeholder Feedback on ways to improve our service. The Student Support Centre conducts feedback surveys to determine the success of our programs and find areas to improve. AC also participates in a range of QILT surveys, including the Student Experience Survey (SES) which is the only comprehensive survey of current higher education undergraduate students in Australia. AC ranks consistently high (top 5-10) in Quality of Entire Educational Experience; Teaching Quality; Skills Development; and Student Support.

Integrity is a core value at AC. Responsibility, transparency and accountability in academic writing are vital keys to your success. We offer a range of study skills that will help build your confidence and promote a community of trust. The Academic Integrity and Misconduct Policy provides clear definitions and expectations, and outlines processes to be undertaken in the event of academic misconduct.
