BackgroundAlphacrucis College believes that a Christian worldview is an essential contributor in the national quest to transform the children in our schools today into the effective citizens of tomorrow.

Alphacrucis College has embarked on a strategic initiative to offer Christian teacher training. Having achieved accreditation for the Master of Teaching (Primary) through DET and the NSW Institute of Teachers, the position of Director is intended to shepherd the implementation of this Program. The qualification is designed to prepare Pre-service Teachers who already have a first degree, for the educational criteria necessary for registration as a teacher with the NSW Institute of Teachers. The Program also offers individual units which already qualified teachers may take for Professional Development. Alphacrucis encourages a philosophy of lifelong learning and offers a range of Vocational courses with a Christian Worldview for schools, local churches and the wider community.

Key Responsibilities:
The key responsibility of the Program Director is to provide leadership and oversight of the Master of Teaching (Primary) program.

 The responsibility of the Program Director of the Master of Teaching (Primary) will include, but is not limited to:

Teaching and Learning
• Make a contribution to the Pre-service and postgraduate education programs that are consistent with the mission and vision for the Program.
• Prepare and deliver lectures, seminars in face-to-face and mixed modal delivery in accordance with the allocated teaching load.
• Conduct tutorials and workshops and facilitate other learning experiences to prepare Pre-service Teachers for the diversity of Australian students including Indigenous Australian students.
• Manage and work collaboratively with faculty and staff in order to maintain & develop effective, efficient and compliant Program delivery.
• Maintain currency and leadership in the use of technology to facilitate teaching and learning.
• Maintain currency with DET and NSW Institute of Teacher’s requirements for Graduating students and state and national curriculum directions
• Liaise with relevant School & Faculty staff, fractional and casual staff, and convene Program meetings for planning and review.
• Be responsible for marking, assessment, recording and submitting results in area of specialism.
• Maintain student records and monitor student progress across the Program.
• Attend College meetings as required.
• Attend appropriate staff development courses as the need arises and participate in the College’s performance, planning and review processes.
• Carry out other duties as directed by the Academic Dean
• Comply with occupational health and safety policies and procedures as developed by the College in accordance with current legislation.
• Commit to the ethos of the College

Research • Conduct relevant research and present at conferences and in professional publications and sites
• Conduct relevant professional development practice and research.

Service
• Actively engage in community service as appropriate
• Participate in the life of the College.

Skills/Qualities Required:

Completion of an earned doctorate from an Australian university or other recognized Australian or international institution of higher education;
• Commitment to the Christian faith that informs one’s professional and personal choices and commitments;
• Evidence of successful teaching in higher education, and of scholarly and professional achievement;
• Understanding of the mission of higher education within the church;
• Successful experience in academic administration;
• Proven leadership, people and communication skills.
